February 9, 2006Chris Andrews selected as candidate for DSEPosted 1671 days ago by Michael Turley on February 9, 2006 Congratulations to Chris Andrews on being selected as Fianna Fail candidate for Dublin South East in the next General Election. I would like to see Councillor Garry Keegan selected as the other candidate although I suspect that Jim O'Callaghan will get the nod this time.See http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2006/0203/3591683448HM9CONVENTION.html for more details or check out the Chris Andrews website. Update: This has been blogged on Irish Elections. January 27, 2006Dublin South East Selection ConventionPosted 1684 days ago by Michael Turley on January 27, 2006 The Fianna Fáil Dublin South East selection convention will be held very soon. The candidates seeking nomination, in no particular order, are:Chris Andrews, Jim O'Callaghan, Garry Keegan, Mary White, John Hanafin and Enda Benson. Although it is a tight enough field, I believe Chris Andrews will get the nomination. He has got the election experience and has a good team of community and party activists. Chris is well known in the constituency through his ongoing involvement in sports, social and community groups. He has also shown the necessary strength of character to bounce back from the diappointment of the local elections. There is some lively discussion about DSE politics here May 19, 2005Dublin South East AGMPosted 1937 days ago by Michael Turley on May 19, 2005 Many contributors (including Eoin Ryan T.D., M.E.P.) at last nights meeting took the opportunity to highlight their concern at issues raised by a recently leaked internal FF report which detailed the worrying decline in membership (particularly active membership), the aging profile of the organisation membership, the inability to attract new membership and an apparent resistance to younger members taking an active part in the organisation (see here for Irish Times coverage). It was noted that the problems outlined in the report were as applicable to Dublin South East as anywhere (perhaps even more so). What the DSE organisation needs, observed impassioned contributors, was change from the top down. The organisation needs new blood and new ideas or we may contemplate a sorry future. It was impressed on us that to ignore the problem is to court disaster.Congratulations, then, to practically the entire officer board who were subsequently re-elected unopposed. |
